(NAPSA)Finding a fun way
to say Happy Holidays to the
youngsters on your list can seem
more like childs play if you heed
a few hints.
1. First, remember toys should
be fun. Get a toy the child can
enjoy right away, not one he or
she will grow into. A toy thats too
advanced can frustrate a child.
Toys should help the child learn
about himself and the world
around him while enhancing his
self-confidence, social skills, cre-
ativity or physical abilities.
2. Next, be sure the toy is safe.
Read the packaging to learn the
age range for which the toy is
intended, how to use the toy, and
whether an adult needs to super-
vise or participate.
3. Consider the childs special
interests and abilities, even if
they go against expected gender
or other roles.
4. Any electrical toys should
carry the UL (Underwriters Labo-
ratories) seal of approval. Include
the proper number and size of bat-
teries with a toy that needs them.
5. Look for non-toxic paint,
smooth edges and parts that can-
not be pulled off and swallowed.
6. Consider games the whole
family can enjoy. A number of new
interactive games for PCs, Playsta-
tion and/or Game Boy Advance are
available that feature characters
children love and parents trust.
These nonviolent, educational and
enjoyable games are rated E for
Everyone. They include:
SpongeBob SquarePants

vance. It includes superheros Mer-

sary TV special.

(NAPSA)Your grandmother
may have called it rapini, but
you will call it wonderful. Won-
derful because it tastes great, is
easy to prepare and
is packed with vita-
mins A and C and
other nutrients.
Once found only at
the Italian greengro-
cer, broccoli rabe is
now a regular in
many supermarkets
across the nation.
Broccoli Rabe (pro-
nounced rob) is a beautiful, dark
green, leafy vegetable. It has clus-
ters of green flower heads similar
to broccoli, but much smaller.
Choose bunches with small stems
and tightly closed flowers, and get
ready for a unique taste experi-
ence.
Preparing broccoli rabe is as
easy as:
1. Rinse and trim
1
4 inch from
bottom of stems.
2. Cut stalks crosswise into 2-
inch pieces and drop them into
salted (optional), boiling water.
3. Cook for 1-2 minutes and
remove with slotted spoon.
4. Sauté the blanched broccoli
rabe in a little olive oil and as
much garlic as you like for 3-5
minutes until tender. Add a few
dried red pepper flakes if you like
your food on the spicy side.
I like to prepare extra and have
it on hand in the fridge for other
dishes like:
GREAT PIZZAS
Top a pizza shell with sautéed
broccoli rabe and a little fresh
mozzarella cheese.
WORLD CLASS SANDWICHES
Pile sautéed broccoli rabe,
sliced tomatoes, and thinly sliced
ham on crusty bread.
SUPER SALADS
Garnish room temperature,
sautéed broccoli rabe with cherry
tomatoes and shaved Parmesan
cheese.
MARVELOUS MASHED
POTATOES
Chop sautéed broccoli rabe into
small pieces and stir them into
mashed potatoes.
The robust flavor of broccoli
rabe adds pleasure to meals and
as part of a diet rich in colorful
fruits and vegetables can help pro-
tect against many forms of cancer,
heart disease, diabetes, obesity
and high blood pressure.
There is overwhelming evi-
dence that people who eat 5 or
more servings of fruits and veg-
etables every day reduce their risk
for many chronic diseases. 5 A
Day can reduce the risk of cancer
by 20 percent. Take the 5 A Day
Challenge. You can do it. Enjoy
the great taste of fruits and veg-
etables as well as their impressive
health benefits.

1
2 teaspoon red pepper

noted in steps 1, 2 and 3.
Reserve water to cook the
pasta. Heat a large skillet over
medium heat. Add olive oil,
olives, garlic and pepper
flakes. Cook and stir until gar-
lic is transparent but not
brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Add broccoli rabe and
1
4 cup
of the reserved water and con-
tinue to cook and stir until the
broccoli rabe is just tender,
another 3 to 5 minutes. Mean-
while, add pasta to reserved
boiling water and cook just
until tender, about 6 to 8 min-
utes. Drain. Add pasta to broc-
coli rabe mixture and toss to

Broccoli Rabe
Old World Taste For Modern Times

Note to Editors: Thirty-sixth in a series of monthly 5-A-Day columns.
(NAPSA)With weather fore-
casters predicting yet another
blustery winter, now is the time to
plan how youll keep your drive-
way and sidewalks snow-free.
To help you prepare for the
pending blowing and drifting,
MTD Products Inc has teamed
with Patrick Campbell, managing
director of Syracuse Universitys
Carrier Dome, to create these sea-
sonal snow-removal tips. Averag-
ing more than nine feet of snow a
year, Syracuse, New York, is
Americas snowiest city. And,
Campbell oversees the snow
removal from the parking lots and
sidewalks surrounding the Dome.
When the flurries start to fly,
Campbell advises:
Add a Little Power
Clearing snow around your
home doesnt have to be backbreak-
ing work. The crew that reports to
Campbell relies on more than a
dozen pieces of power equipment to
get the job done. Although many of
us swear by a trusty shovel or
broom, adding power equipment to
your snow-clearing arsenal can
help alleviate heavy lifting and
speed up the snow removal process.
A dependable snow thrower wont
break the bank, either. Durable
units start as low as $350.
Choose the Right Tool
Whether you have a few inches
or a few feet of snow to clear, be
sure to use the best tool for the
job. Campbells crew relies on
more than twelve heavy-duty
trucks to clear the 2,000 parking
spaces surrounding the stadium.
A smaller fleet of snow throwers
clears snow from the Domes 14
entrances. Your snow removal job
might be smaller, but still impor-
tant to you and your family.
For clearing tight spaces, con-
sider the new Yard Machines
Snow Buster
. This compact snow
thrower, as light as a snow shovel,
is perfect for patios, decks and
short walkways. The Buster
adjusts to throw snow in all direc-
tions, and its sturdy design can
help clear even deep snow.
For larger projects, choose the
Yard-Man E295 single stage snow
thrower. This unit boasts a 21
clearing width and can grab up to
11 of snow in a single pass. With
its seven horsepower, four-cycle
engine, theres no need for messy
gas and oil mixing in the freezing
cold. The unit uses the same fuel
that is pumped into your car at
the gas station.
If youre clearing a longer drive,
add more power. With a 26 clear-
ing width, the Yard-Man H5C3F
two-stage snow thrower can handle
a snow depth of more than a foot
and a half in a single pass. Power
steering makes for easy maneuver-
ability and push-button electric
start, halogen headlight and heated
handles all add comfort to even the
worst of snow-clearing conditions,
day or night.
Take a Pre-Storm Checkup
Just as you need regular check-
ups to remain healthy, so does
your power equipment. After the
equipment has been sitting idle
through the spring, summer and
fall, be sure to review your
owners manual and perform any
recommended maintenance. Fresh
gasoline, a proper oil level and a
new spark plug can make the dif-
ference between an easy or diffi-
cult start to your winter mainte-
nance schedule.
Equipment that is cared for has
a significantly longer lifespan than
those just thrown into duty, insists
Campbell. Maintenance and pre-
season checkups allow us to use our
equipment year after year.
Layer Up
Whether you are shoveling or
using a snow thrower, you need to
dress appropriately. The Syracuse
snow crew stays warm, even in
the worst conditions, by dressing
in layers. Wearing multiple layers
and removing wet clothes immedi-
ately upon returning indoors will
keep you warmer as temperatures
plummet.
